At Wind River, musicality is no small matter. From the beginning, we’ve studied and perfected what we call “the Science of Sound”—carefully engineering each component to create the most melodic chimes on the market. Before a chime is assembled, we test the tone, resonance and pitch of each tube to make sure they match the intended harmony. It’s the kind of attention to detail you can see—and hear.

Every Wind River chime uses heavy-duty, braided nylon cording that’s treated to be weather and UV resistant.

Aluminum makes our wind chimes lightweight and weather resistant. But when it comes to pitch and resonance, each alloy has its own unique characteristics. Through years of testing and engineering, we’ve identified the aluminum alloy that creates exceptional tone and sound quality—and we use it in every chime. Our Premier chimes also feature thick-walled tubes for even greater resonance.
- Many wind chimes are strung together with cording that runs through holes drilled in each tube, creating a zig-zag pattern. This method can decrease the resonance of each tube and dampen the sound of the chime. At Wind River. the tubes in our Premier and Deluxe wind chimes are hung from a single string ties to a central, interior pin. Using centrally pinned tubes gives each chimes crystal-clear resonance, volume and tone.

To build a better wind chime, we tinkered until we got it right—and the striker was a smart place to start. A soft striker material gives each chime a gentle, soothing reverberation. But strikers must also be heavy enough to create a clean, crisp note upon impact. To create a soft striker with a lot of mass, we mold ultra-high-density polymer into a curved elliptical shape. It may be hidden, but it’s the detail that makes a Wind River chime truly sing.
