Position Overview
The Assistant Buyer works directly with the Buyer and assists them in the purchasing of assigned product categories. The Assistant Buyer is the support person for Shipton’s Item Management and Purchasing data system. This person communicates and works closely with store operations and vendors as related to product and inventory.
Essential Job Functions.
- Creates new vendors/items and enters ordering information into company purchasing and replenishment system.
- Monitors purchase orders, including ensuring accuracy through confirmations.
- Assist in processing accurate and timely replenishment orders.
- Assist receivers and Buyers with packing slips, credits, and order discrepancies.
- Coordinates with vendors to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
- Maintains vendor and item data integrity within the operating system.
- Manage items’ lifecycle through proper use and application of seasonal codes and markdown calendars.
- Input promotional pricing for all marketing events.
- Attain website requirements worksheet to place new items online.

Requirements
- Retail/merchandising experience preferred. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to work in Billings, MT. Additional requirements of the Assistant Buyer position include:

The person in this position will report directly to the Store Manager and be primarily responsible to assist the Store Manager in the overall operation of the store. Department heads report to this position.
Job Duties
1. Responsible for supporting the efforts of store management through the expectations of driving sales, upholding store standards, customer service, financial responsibility, people development and event execution.
2. This is a leadership position and as such, the person in this position must exercise good judgement by conducting themselves in a manner that provides an example to subordinates of integrity obtained through honesty, good faith and fair dealing and treating others as they would want to be treated.
3. Store Standards: Maintains store standards by walking with department manager(s) to evaluate merchandising, cleanliness, signage, and seasonal conversions for each department that reports to this position. Creates task lists that include goals for each department/ department manager. Follows up on work results.
4. Merchandising: Will work with the buying staff in a professional and courteous manner to work toward the shared goal of a strategically merchandised department that will result in increased profitability for which managers and buyers are equally responsible.
5. Driving Sales: Ensuring departments are adequately stocked through transfers, daily RDI review, identifying out of stocks daily by communicating with the buying staff.
6. Customer Service: Promotes customer service through developing people through strategic hiring practices, evaluating performance, coaching and training and accurate scheduling.
7. Performs a variety of duties personally and/or coaches Department Heads/Employees who are responsible to carry out the specific duties. Duties could include preparing merchandise displays, receiving merchandise, etc.

10. Responsible for opening and closing the store when schedules dictate and according to established procedures.
11. Fiscal responsibility to include integrity of cash register balances, safe balances, and deposits.
