FEEDING GUIDE
Amounts are based on a standard 8 oz / 250 ml measuring cup. Calorie count: 3460 kcal/kg, 328 kcal/cup
The daily quantity of Heartland Harvest Complete Puppy Food that your dog needs will vary with the breed, size, activity level, and environment. Use the basic chart above as a guide and vary the amount you feed as necessary to maintain ideal body condition. Consult your veterinarian for guidance on optimal body condition. Remember to provide plenty of fresh water in a clean container at all times. Regular veterinarian visits are recommended to ensure your dog’s good health. Changes in your dog’s food should be gradual to allow your dog to transition to the new food. Slowly increase the amount of new food while decreasing the old food over a period of 7-10 days to avoid digestive upsets. To help maintain freshness of the food, seal the bag tightly after each use and store in a cool, dry location.
Weaning Pups: Puppies may begin eating solid foods around 3-4 weeks of age, so moistened food should be available to them at all times. Mix 6 parts of kibble with 1 part warm water, allow the mixture to stand for approximately 5 minutes, then stir and serve. Change the food frequently to ensure freshness. Allow your puppy to eat at will until fully weaned around 6-8 weeks.
Growing Pups: Once puppies are fully weaned, develop a regular feeding schedule such as two or three small meals a day for younger puppies then gradually reduce to one feeding in the morning and one in the evening as your puppy ages. Heartland Harvest Complete Puppy Food can be fed in dry form or moistened with warm water to weaned puppies. Overfeeding can result in developmental bone disorders in large or giant breed dogs, so caloric intake should support gradual bone and muscle development. Large and giant breed dogs continue developing up to two years of age, so it is important they get the extra nutrition provided by Heartland Harvest Complete Puppy Food for up to 24 months. As puppies near adulthood their caloric needs decrease, so monitor their weight and adjust food amounts as needed to maintain ideal body condition. Consult your veterinarian for guidance on optimal body condition.
Pregnant and Lactating Dogs: Heartland Harvest Complete Puppy Food provides all the extra nutrition needed by females during reproduction. Food consumption increases during pregnancy, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female in good body condition. Food intake during lactation can be 2-4 times higher, so feed the nursing female all she wants to eat.
Adult Dogs: Heartland Harvest Complete Puppy Food can be fed in dry form or moistened with warm water following the table shown above.
